... I can't tell you that it won't happen. In fact, I suspect it may.
[clarte would like to be reassuring, but this isn't exactly something to lie about. and in some cases, facing reality is the only way to endure it.]
But at the very least, based off the pattern so far... I suspect it won't for another week. So, you shouldn't have to brace yourself for it every night.
I don't know if we can stop it from happening a second time. But at the very least, we have to try. And that means figuring out why it's happening, no matter how intimidating the truth may be.
That's when everybody got trapped where they were... And then everybody fell asleep. Why would it happen at all? Did the prism know what was gonna happen?
It's hard to say. First, we have to decide how many different entities we're dealing with here.
It's possible the prism is behind everything, in which case it's a more malicious being than the residents believe it to be. It's also possible that it's behind everything, but it truly cannot comprehend the morality behind its actions, in which case we have to... alter it somehow? Teach it to be better?
It may also be that the prism exists, but so does something else that the residents don't know of.
We've been making some progress, haven't we? People have found strange notes and the like. Whether they're real or not, we can start to paint a picture with them.

[ That doesn't really feel reassuring right now, but it is better than every single night? ]

At least... It doesn't seem like it can erase words, if you write them down?
